Ghouls

I grew up watching the Creature Double Feature almost every Saturday afternoon. I love the horror genre. In one of my college film classes, my essay on the final exam extolled my reasoning for claiming An American Werewolf in London as the greatest film of all time. I got an ‘A’ though I’m fairly certain I didn’t fully convince the professor. It has been subsequently supplanted by Goodfellas, but is still easily one of my favorites. It has great scares, which is essential for a horror movie, duh. But, it also has excellent humor, an unbelievable soundtrack, and, to top it all off, some groundbreaking special effects from the legendary Rick Baker. He won the very first Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for his work on the film. I contend they still hold up, even in the CGI age.

You could put Ghouls out for Halloween, or keep it out all year long, it’s that cool. The red cloth spine has gold lettering, while the rest of the cover is a light green paper (?). The front has a snarling Christopher Lee as Dracula in black, and he adorns the compartment along with Karloff’s Frankenstein and Chaney’s Phantom of the Opera (from the original dust cover).
