Don’t Go Near the Water

This book parodies aspects of the Naval public relations during WWII in 1945. My parents were both in the navy; in fact they met while based in Seattle. That’s where my brother was born. As I recall the story, they drove to Allentown, where I was born, while pregnant with me in a purple hearse with bullet holes in the side. It was the late 60s, that’s how things went down back then. This book was made into a movie starring Glen Ford. I didn’t see it, but I’ve seen other naval parodies that I thoroughly enjoyed. There’s Abbot and Costello In The Navy, Operation Petticoat, the tv show McHale’s Navy, just to name a few (actually, that’s all I can name).

The blue cloth cover is reminiscent of the deep blue sea. Like, tidally! And the white graphics on the spine and front cover are like the caps of waves. Water you waiting for? Jump in and buy this book safe!
